Accountant I

Purpose:  Responsible for a wide variety of daily accounting/operational functions within the Deposit Operations department.  Duties include maintaining accounting records and preparation of general ledger and internal  checking account reconciliations, including reciprocal deposit products; preparation of weekly bank regulatory reports;  preparation of and filing of the Annual Unclaimed Property/Escheatment Reporting; back-up for other Operations Department functions; and assisting with data requested by internal and external auditors.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Responsible for Maintaining Accounting Records and Preparing Reconciliations:  Prepare reconciliations for Due from Correspondent Banks, Transit Items, ITM/ATM Cash, Unposted Bookkeeping Holdover, Cash Items, Canadian Cash Items, NFC Loans, Dealer Reserve, and other assigned general ledger accounts. Perform daily reconciliations of various internal Bank DDA accounts, which include credit card advances, prepaid debit & gift cards, and debit card/ATM Settlement.  Perform monthly reconciliations of the official check accounts.  Communicate with appropriate West Bank staff for follow up on open reconciling items.  Prepare monthly summary of Federal Reserve service charges. Daily Processing, Settlement, and Entries for CDARS, Janney, Raymond James, and ICS Money Market and Interest Checking:  Perform timely settlements as needed for CDARS, ICS, Janney & Raymond James.  Record daily general ledger entries and perform the reconcilements for the CDARS and ICS Money Market and Interest Checking programs and Janney and Raymond James deposits.  Check and verify the balances and interest rates for Janney and Raymond James on a daily basis. (20%)

Correspondent Banks’ Fed Fund Needs:  Take calls from downstream correspondent banks regarding their Fed Fund borrowing or excess funds.  Update e-mail with Current Fed Funds rates.  Monitor and prepare entries as needed. (5%)

Preparation of and Support for Regulatory Reporting:  Accurately prepare and timely submit weekly FR2900 and FR2644 Reports.  Run the daily CETO reports. (10%)

IOLTA/REOLTA Reporting:  On a monthly basis utilize a Business Analytics report showing the amount of earnings for all Iowa and Minnesota IOLTA/REOLTA DDA accounts.  Utilize the reports to record accounting entries for interest expense and a liability for each group of accounts.  On a quarterly basis, prepare remittance reports for Iowa and Minnesota.  Also prepare cashier’s checks and general ledger tickets for the remittances.  Send in all statements and payments quarterly in accordance with established deadlines. (5%)

Preparation of and Filing of the Annual Unclaimed Property/Escheatment Reporting to the States of Iowa and Minnesota:  Identify property that is subject to be reported as of June 30th; perform the final effort to locate owners and assemble the draft report during the period July through September; create, file, and remit funds, including safe deposit box contents, on or before November 1st.  Follow guidelines established by the states. This process will be under the direction/oversite/review of an officer in Deposit Operations. (5%)        

Perform Other Operational Tasks:  Share responsibility for distribution of printed reports and emailing the overdrawn account reports each morning.  (10%)

Provide Back Up for Other Operations Department Team Members:  Responsible for backing up the daily responsibilities of the other positions within the department and recording other general ledger/DDA entries as needed.  Assist with gathering data requested by internal and external auditors as requested. (10%)

Build Strong Communities:  Participate in community events, including spending at least 4 hours annually staffing an event (art festivals, community celebrations, etc.), representing West Bank at a luncheon or reception as requested, or participating in a community festival (parade, etc.) or bank-sponsored outreach event.  (5%)


Qualifications (Include Education and Experience):  Associates Degree in Accounting with strong accounting skills.  Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.  Previous accounting and banking experience a plus.  Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
