For West Bank’s 125th Anniversary, each West Banker was given the opportunity to direct a $125 donation from the West Bancorporation Foundation to the charity of their choice. Third in a series of four articles on the $125 for the 125th Program, this is the story of one such donation.
West Banker Ashley Rottinghaus directed her $125 for the 125th donation to Dress for Success Des Moines.
“I knew right away when the $125 for the 125th Program was announced that I wanted to direct my $125 donation to Dress for Success,” Ashley said.
“I met Jody White, Founding Partner and Executive Director of Dress for Success Des Moines, at a LEAP (Leadership Education and Advancement Pipeline Series ) event. I wanted to meet her as I had attended the 2017 Dress for Success luncheon and still had not forgotten how moving it was. Following the LEAP event, I emailed Jody asking how West Bank could help contribute and make a difference. She informed me they go through 50 handbags a month on average and they are always looking for donations of professional looking handbags. “
A handbag drive seemed like a perfect fit for WIN, West Bank’s Women’s Impact Network. (Link to previous post about WIN) As a result of Ashley’s inquiry, the WIN group is planning a Valley Junction women-owned business crawl paired with a handbag drive for Dress for Success for October 2018.
“I invited Jody to our Women’s Impact Network golf outing in July and presented the $125 check to her there,” Ashley continued. “The timing was perfect as Dave (West Bank CEO Dave Nelson) said a few words at the meal following the outing and talked about our 125th anniversary and the $125 for the 125th Program. Jody was beyond appreciative and it really showcased what West Bank is all about.”
Other West Bankers have been involved with Dress for Success by volunteering to sort donations and serving on the board of directors. West Banker Dawn Henss, manager of the Grand Avenue Branch which is near the offices of Dress for Success, was pleased to witness the check presentation.
“Dress for Success is such a wonderful organization,” Henss said. “I served on the board of directors for two terms. The work they do empowers women in so many ways. A woman who has a job interview scheduled can come in and put together an interview suit complete with shoes and handbag. When they get a job, they can come back and pick out a week’s worth of outfits so they can go into their new position with confidence.”
Dress for Success has also been the recipient of multiple West Bank sponsorships in the past. West Bank is proud to support Dress for Success Des Moines.
