West Bank has unveiled The West Des Moines Welcome, a one-of-a-kind happy face displayed on the roof of its headquarters building in West Des Moines. The 37-foot-diameter design features the words "West Des Moines" and was created to welcome visitors to the community and greet residents returning home.

Designed to be visible to many passengers arriving at Des Moines International Airport, The West Des Moines Welcome offers a distinctive greeting from above and celebrates the city West Bank has called home for more than 130 years.

“As the oldest business of any kind headquartered in West Des Moines, we're proud of our roots here. We saw this as a fun way to celebrate the community, and we hope it makes people smile,” said Dave Nelson, West Bank Chairman and CEO.

The project intentionally focuses on the city rather than the bank. The design reads "West Des Moines," not "West Bank," because the goal is to celebrate the city and the people who live, work, and visit it. The happy face reflects West Des Moines' welcoming and positive spirit.

Aircraft approaching Des Moines International Airport from the north pass near West Bank's headquarters before landing, giving passengers a unique aerial view of The West Des Moines Welcome. West Bank hopes the display creates a memorable first impression for visitors and a familiar greeting for those returning home.

The project was designed as a fun way to celebrate West Des Moines and recognize the community where West Bank's story began in 1893.
